Slava – A Serbian Celebration

Our hosts, Vanja & Slavoljub

Last night Marvin and I celebrated Slava in Burien at the home of our good friends, Vanja and Slavoljub Jovic. Slava (Thanksgiving or Glory-Giving) is a Serbian holiday celebrated throughout the year on the feast day of the patron saint of an entire family. November 16th is the Jovic family Slava. Vanja spent two days preparing a feast so family and friends – Serbian, Bosnian, Turkish, and American – could enjoy the traditional dishes of her homeland. Like all good Serbian parties, it started off with Slivovitz and a toast… Zivili!
