Celebrating the Year of the Dragon

Share

Monday is Chinese New Year – and the start of the Year of the Dragon. I am not exactly sure what this means for me, but I do know that the Chinese Dragon is the symbol of success and happiness… so bring it on!

My Chinese astrological sign is actually the goat – not nearly as exciting as a dragon. Apparently we goats can be charming company and are elegant and artistic, but we are the first to complain about things. Hmmm… that’s something to think about. I also read today that a goat will do well as an actor, gardener, or beachcomber. Wow… beach-combing! Seriously, a new career to consider. I wonder if I could find success and happiness as a beachcomber… I guess I need to visit a few beaches this year to find out.

In the meantime, we’ll be celebrating Chinese New Year with a few close friends and some wonderful food. In case you decide to cook up your own celebration, here are a few recipes you might enjoy:

Chinese BBQ Spareribs
Emily Uematsu’s Chinese Fried Rice
Asian Cucumber Salad
Stir Fried Shrimp & Snow Peas
Braised Garlic Ginger Tofu

Happy Cooking and Happy Year of the Dragon!

OK, the ribs are in their 2nd day of marinating, the rice is cooled, the meat and veggies are diced and ready to be added, the dressing for the Asian cucumber salad is ready, so tomorrow night Chris and Jeff, Tammy and Darryl, and Jennifer and I will celebrate the Year of the Dragon. I even have a bottle of Sake and some fortune cookies. The condo at Whistler will never be the same…at least until Joy and Toby and Bernice and Skip arrive….I’ll let you know how everything comes out….maybe Chris will post a picture.
Thanks for all the wonderful recipes.
Oh, and the Power Ski Bars are in the oven.

Gary – I hope you guys have a fabulous feast! Those ribs are even better as leftovers, but with Darryl and Jeff at the table, you might not have many leftovers. I wish you all a wonderful dinner and please take some pictures. 🙂
