Last Friday, Joy, Toby, Marvin and I met up with two great friends, Chris and Jeff Lewis, for dinner at Bizzarro Italian Cafe. It was another evening when we all said, “how come we’ve never eaten here before??”
Bizzarro has been serving great food in the same Wallingford location for 26 years. According to the restaurant website, the original owner, David Nast, “converted the building which was originally an auto workshop into his dream restaurant on a shoestring budget with a lot of hardwork, ingenuity, artistic inspiration and love.”
The space is quirky, charming, and full of circus and other old-time memorabilia. It’s a small restaurant and the tables are packed tightly together, but because the ceilings are so high and the servers are so professional and relaxed, we never felt crowded – even on a very busy Friday night.
Bizzarro was featured in the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives last year. Here is the clip in case you want to check it out…
As for our food… YUMMY!!! The bread, salads, soup, antipasta, and desserts all tasted delicious, but the real stand-outs were the inspired and lovingly prepared entrees. Our favorites of the evening were: Parsnip Ravioli with Brown Butter & Sage, Elk Bolognese, and Red Wine Braised Lamb Shank.
Most everything is made in-house, from the pasta to the pancetta.
Bizzarro is a place where you just feel the love. The people who work at this restaurant, from the servers to the chef, obviously love what they do.
We loved our dinner and we’ll definitely be back again.
