Douglas opened his first restaurant, Dahlia Lounge back in 1989. Since then, he has continuously owned and operated some of the city’s favorite eating spots like Etta’s, Lola, Palace Kitchen, and one of our new breakfast favorites, Serious Biscuit.
Add to the restaurant business a weekly radio show, an organic farm, a catering company, a line of seasoning products, and a lot of volunteering to feed the homeless. Oh, and a wife and family, too!
We think Tom Douglas is a hometown culinary hero.
Plus, Douglas is an amazing chef who knows how to cook with local Northwest ingredients. In 2005, Douglas competed against Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto, using the secret ingredient Alaskan salmon, and won, defeating Morimoto for only the second time in the show’s history.
In case you can’t get to Seattle to try one of Tom Douglas’ restaurants, here’s a chance for you to cook some of his favorites at home. Just enter our Taste of Seattle August Giveaway!
